Game flow update


Hey pilots!

Huge update here.

I've been hard at work redesigning the game play flow. These changes are structural to the vision for the whole game. I wasn't very happy with how you moved between systems previously, it felt like it was a very linear track which didn't lend itself to feeling like a universe. So here's what I've done:

  1. Over 15 procedural generated systems to move through in this version of the demo.
  2. Choose what kind of challenge you are up to after you complete each system. Some have very dangerous enemies but will reward those who defeat the challenge. You can take the long way by protecting small systems along the way or face the largest enemies head to fast track your progress.
  3. You are now racing against the enemies to occupy the system, if you let too many die you won't be able to recover the system, shield enough citizens from and you'll drive the invaders out of the system for good

Other updates:

  • I've heard from multiple sources that reloading feels pretty slow. I've pumped up those numbers a lot now. You'll still reload faster if you are moving faster but you shouldn't feel like you run out of ammo too much unless you are using a very powerful weapon.
  • Many many bugs squashed.
  • Tweaks to game feel here and there.
